Breakaway’s back with William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream being performed in two outside venues in July!

We will be at Inn on the Park – St Albans on Thursday 2nd – Saturday 4th July, and then at The United Reformed Church on Watford Road, Chiswell Green on Thursday 9th – Saturday 11th July 2026. All performances start at 7.30 pm.

Set in the heart of the Victorian era, this production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream explores a world where society expects women to be obedient, yet change is quietly stirring. As tradition clashes with independence, Shakespeare’s spirited heroines begin to challenge the roles imposed upon them, seeking love, freedom, and a voice of their own. Against a backdrop of strict social rules and enchanting woodland mischief, romance and rebellion intertwine. Magic, mistaken identities, and shifting loyalties blur the boundaries between duty and desire in this timeless tale of transformation, where women dare to imagine a different future.

There will be a 20-minute interval, and the performances are expected to end around 10.15 pm.

Inn on the Park – 2nd, 3rd, 4th July

We are delighted to be bringing Shakespeare back to the Inn on the Park. It’s the usual set-up. Unreserved seating is at the picnic tables and benches, but feel free to bring your own cushions and/or seating. Depending on the weather, you may also wish to bring warm jackets for when the sun goes down, as it can get a lot cooler.

The bar will be open for a range of alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. Chilli and a veggie option will also be available to order.

Chiswell Green United Reformed Church – 9th, 10th, 11th July

In a first for Breakaway, we will be performing in the outdoor space at the rear of the United Reformed Church in Chiswell Green, which is an easy drive just on the southern edge of St Albans. The hall and facilities have recently been rebuilt and the veranda and grass area provide a lovely staging area.

PLEASE NOTE
Seating will not be provided, so bring your own picnic chairs, rugs and cushions. Because we are not licensed to sell alcohol, you are welcome to bring your own bottles and soft drinks. However, please ensure that all drinking “glasses” are unbreakable.

Hot drinks will be available during the interval. However, you are welcome to bring your own alcohol and soft drinks, plus your own “glasses”, which should be unbreakable.

As this is a grassy, outdoor space, the ground may be uneven and unfortunately we cannot guarantee easy access for wheelchairs or those with mobility issues. However, there will be parking available for Blue Badge holders.

Parking is very limited at the Church, so unless you are a Blue Badge holder, you are requested to park in the streets nearby.

If you have any queries regarding access to the Church, please email: contact@breakawaytheatre.com and we aim to respond within 24 hours during the week. However, it may be a bit longer at weekends.
