SYNOPSIS
A rundown farmhouse in the country and its embittered inhabitants; barely keeping the farm afloat. This uneasy peace is shattered when the farm’s owner, a once respected academic, and his new wife return. Old wounds are reopened, new scars are created and the dying embers of ambition flare back up. “Any idiot can face a crisis, it’s this day to day living that wears you out.’
UNCLE VANYA By Anya Reiss
This modern adaptation captures life over a century later yet the themes are more relevant than ever. The divide between the workers and the intelligentsia, love as escapist fantasy and the preciousness of the natural world.
Breakaway Theatre Company’s production of Anya Reiss’ updated version of Chekhov’s 1898 play was performed on 10th, 11th 17th and 18th February 2017 at The Maltings Theatre, St Albans, AL1 3HL.
